Mr. Fun...meet John Fowles

The origins of the imperative, "know thyself", are lost in the sands of time, but the age-old examination of human consciousness continues here.

Mr. Fun...meet John Fowles

Postby iambiguous » Sun Dec 12, 2021 5:58 pm

Lately, Satyr -- Mr. Fun -- has been pummeling us with his Know Thyself threads. Taking advantage of the "new ILP".

He tells us that this festive holiday season will be his last.

Maybe, right?

Anyway, while devouring his Under World thread, it just struck me:

Seriously though, how are threads like this not just his own rendition of...

"He was like a man who wanted to change all; and could not; so burned with his impotence; and had only me, an infinitely small microcosm to convert or detest." John Fowles

That he is too naive and too weak -- and not just philosophically -- to recognize it isn't my fault.

It may well be embedded genetically in his very character. More or less completely beyond his control.

This biological imperative to demand that everyone worship and adore him as a Mr. KnowItAll.

And again: the staggering irrelevance of KT and ILP given our utter lack of impact on the world around us.

It's got to be Fowles here, right?

Oh, and I put this in Psychology and Mind because I can't help but suspect that what propels him here is a "condition". One of many here at ILP.

You forgot...
Unless you are wrong...and then

It's worked so well for you.

Don't worry dear...you'll make a change before he gets here.
You're wearing them down.
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his gods

That's the paradox, isn't it?

He wants ILP to mimic the "serious philosophy" embedded in his pedantic intellectual contraption discussions at Know Thyself.

But every time I give him the opportunity to strut that autodidactic stuff here with me, he turns into Mr. Yap Yap Yap.

And now we have only days [supposedly] to get to the bottom of it.

No context...only contraptions up in the sky didactic objectivism.
Mr. Wo-man.

Let's do real philosophy...like the great ones did.

Mary Land is pregnant...
What's the name of the guy?
How old is he?
Is he cute?

Down to Earth stuff.
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,

Real "down to earth philosophy":

Mary is pregnant with a man she has changed her mind about. She wants an abortion to correct her mistake.
She wants society to pay for it.
For moral reasons...in an amoral world.
Of their own choice...in a no free-will world.

Now this is real philosophy not those didactic, pie in the sky, objectivist contraptions of fulminating fanatics...that I didn't really understand, anyway.
Unless.....unless....UNLESS...
Disclaimer is coming
UNLESS...I'm wrong.
Now the condescending poke

No kid stuff here.
Adult philosophy.

Thumping one objectivist at a time.
I win.

Show us a context.

Huffing and Puffing is all you've got woman!
I've reduced you down to a kid.....a 70 year-old kindergarten kid.

Bring your contraptions down from the skyhooks....let's dish like wo-men do.
Let's do "real philosophy", not your objectivist fulminating fanaticism.

Here Now in a no-god amoral world, I cannot not pay for Mary Land's constant abortions, in the Then There, Here Now.
Us not them means we not they are paying for our abortions, after being fucked by us, then, requiring an abortion now, for which we are not responsible because we could not not have fucked us then to need an abortion in the here now.

Of course: Mr Fun meets John Fowles in the theater of the absurd!

And in the nasty theater of the absurd to boot!!

I know: Let's bring back dignified philosophy. Just as soon as Carleas gets back from his well-deserved sabbatical.

Daddy...where are you?
God, my god, why have you forsaken me?
Devils torment me, and I am desperate for salvation.
Take me...I am yours, my god of Nothingness, my divine god of Nil.
To every man upon this earth

I am only good in theory....up there on the skyhooks.
Not in fact...not down here, on the ground, in real time.

I am good at mocking, undermining, refusing, playing word games, saying no....
No means No!!
When a wo-man speaks we must believe her.
But what if she comes across a one who is onto her game?
Then she calls for help....
Rape!!
Rape!!!

I'll need to abort what this fiend has implanted in my mind's womb.
I have given no consent for this fertilization.
Abort...I need a doctor.
I need to forget....blissfully return to Lethe.
Peace...nothingness, where no self remains.
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.

Did you spot the reference to Dominque Francon here?

True, she ever had an abortion [in the novel or on the screen], but it did stir up considerable controversy:

https://medium.com/curious/discussing-t ... f69001de35

And not just in theory of course because there are actual flesh and blood Objectivists who fuck like this and refuse to call it rape.

I'm wondering if perhaps Mr. Fun night describe what he calls it. You know, assuming that this is how Mary -- the whore -- got knocked up.

And with all of us back then it didn't need to be about changing the world because as I kept pointing out the "world" itself is ever and always only in your head

Genius...
Change your mind....change the world.
But it ain't your mind, it is a universal mind...not to be identified as the one-god of Abraham, but a mind left unidentified and only described in exactly the same way.

World exists in that one-mind, and we, lacking free-will - are its thoughts, convinced that it is we who are thinking...
So all is one....an us/we...I, as in the singularity.
Who, then, is convincing whom, and why bother if it is all determined by the one-mind...not to be named god?
Blasphemy to name or to depict the one-mind...in many Abrahamic variants...it reduces it, diminishes it, and it is incomprehensibly comprehensible by only the few.
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
