Like this one. Absolutely flawless and so elegantly stylish in its arrangement. And who has such rich storylines like that? This is a truly unique piece of music.

That's not one of my favorites, but since you mentioned it I'll give you a little trivial information about it.

You'll see where Fixed 'loled' about fifty some seconds into it. Right there... that last fifteen second part... was by accident. It was a pattern my fingers fell into when trying to correct another mistake. Once I recognized the pattern, I repeated it, but it was unnatural and I almost lost it.

Finally I memorized what I did there on the pads and used the pattern as a motif of sorts. In fact it's basically the same pattern used in four or five others. Three ladies, for instance. It's the sound set that's different, not the pattern. Betcha didnt recognize that.

Did I notice recurring themes?

Yes I did, yeah.

Now this song, and this version of this song, is quite indicative for me.

Just the part at 2:51 when frank breaks away into that lick. Makes the whole song. The gumbo variations has a similar incident where the bass and drums get this groove for only a brief moment... then it's gone.

Hot Rats probably marked the beginning of the stage of passing out of the early MOI satire and do-wop and into the more technical writing. Little Umbrellas for example.

Here's a neat little ditty from the Lather album you might find fun.

Lol I forgot about this one on Antipop.

I dunno if claypool can be fully appreciated by non Americans. There's something uniquely idiosyncratic about his band persona and character that you cant tolerate if you dont understand that distinctly alternative american grunge subculture that emerged in the lower income classes of rural america. The original 442 olds driving Kentuckian trailer park tweaker metal heads. This is not something anything in Europe or anywhere else can identify with.

No dude claypool isnt from Kentucky hes from Arizona or san franciso I think. Rather it's what he did for us in the southeast during the grunge decade. When Jerry was a racecar driver was released, he began the redefinition what avant garde meant and could be in the grunge metal experiment of the nineties. Nirvana and STP and Sound Garden are too generic and sterile by comparison. Rock bands were trying too hard to be cool. We needed a les claypool.

that there's whatcha call a crick. a big crick
