D.D Dumbo is the solo project of Oliver Hugh Perry. This is one of my favourite genres.

I did a 2-year course in audio engineering back in the day and every month we had to bring in a musician or band to record in a professional studio. I used to get criticized all the time for bringing in quirky, experimental musicians to record. Most of the other students brought in bands who thought they were the next AC/DC.... We just got one of the first monster 24-track desks in the country and they wanted to record AC/DC clone bands on it. I used to ask my recording buddies what we were going to do with the remaining 23 tracks. I would have loved to have someone like D.D Dumbo to record.

“…[“Persevere” is about] my best buddy’s baby who just died, this beautiful, innocent fucking baby. And he’s saying, ‘God isn’t a vindictive mother fucker, contrary to what you may believe. Contrary to what the world believes.’ This is a deeply, faithful, intelligent, Christian man with wisdom beyond any of mine.

In my opinion back then, he was cutting God too much slack. But he had this completely different set of core values in relation to God. Part of that was so inspiring and also infuriating to me. I sort of felt dwarfed in the shadow of this guy’s wisdom and grace and belief and faith. I was almost envious that he could manifest that, even in light of the death of his child...”

POPULAR SONG MIX

And now for something a little different… Pub Choir started in Brisbane a couple of years ago by a school music teacher who thought adults could benefit from her classes. They started off in small pubs but soon expanded to larger drinking venues as it became more popular. Her aim is to spend no more than 90 minutes arranging songs in three-part harmony and teaching people how to sing the parts.

Pub Choir has recently expanded to do tours overseas and because of the coronavirus lockdown, they’ve now doing world-wide, online, sing-alongs under the Couch Choir name (last track below).
